Fun with Sales Funnels

"Sales funnel" is one of those phrases marketers use to sound expensive. Here's what it actually means: a stranger finds out you exist, gets a few reasons to trust you, and eventually picks up the phone. That's the whole funnel.

The mistake most small businesses make is trying to run the entire thing on one tool. All Facebook. All email. All word of mouth. One tool is one point of failure, and every tool is only good at one part of the job.

Different Tools Reach Different People

The people scrolling Facebook and Instagram are not the people reading your emails. Social puts you in front of folks who've never heard of you. Email talks to people who already have. Run one without the other and you're either meeting strangers you never follow up with, or following up with a list that never grows.

Each Tool Aims at Something Different

Social platforms let you show a post to people by interest and location: homeowners in Sussex County who follow home improvement pages, say. Email lets you sort people by what they've actually done: asked for a quote, bought once, gone quiet since last spring. Put the two together and the right message lands in front of the right person, instead of one message shouted at everybody.

They Keep People Interested in Different Ways

Social is a conversation. People comment, ask questions, tag the neighbor who needs a roofer. Email is a direct line: a reminder, an offer, a note that your schedule is filling for the season. Neither replaces the other. A funnel needs both the handshake and the follow-up call.

You Can Finally See What's Working

Every tool keeps its own score. Social tells you who's paying attention. Email tells you who opened, who clicked, and who ignored you. Look at them together and you can see exactly where people fall out of the funnel. Then you fix that step instead of guessing, which is what most of your competitors are doing.

It Costs Less Than It Sounds

Posting on social costs you nothing but time. Email is a few dollars a month. Using them together doesn't double your budget; it makes the money you're already spending work harder, because a customer who sees you twice in two places calls a lot sooner than one who saw you once and forgot.

The takeaway: you don't need ten tools and a dashboard that looks like a cockpit. You need two or three, each doing its part of the job, in the right order. That's a funnel. The rest is just software.

If your current funnel is "hope somebody calls," get in touch and we'll tell you where the leaks are. No pitch, no meeting. Just a straight answer, usually the same day.
